Historique :	Tableaux commandés pour constituer la Galerie des Illustres au peintre Eloi Chapsal par monsieur Furcy Grognier, maire de l'époque. Eloi Chapsal (1811-1882) exécuta plus de cent portraits des représentants du monde politique, de l'administration, de l'aristocratie et de la bourgeoisie. Il est l'élève de Blondel et de Gros, ami de Thomas Couture, et grâce au soutien financier de la ville d'Aurillac il parvient à se former aux Beaux-Arts. Dès 1840 il participe aux Salons, et crée en 1853 un musée à Aurillac dont il fut le premier conservateur.
