Historique :	Ce tableau est une copie ancienne, fidèle jusqu'aux dimensions, de la Mise au tombeau conservée au musée du Louvre, que Titien réalisa en 1525. On sait qu'il existe plusieurs copies anciennes de cette oeuvre du Titien dont l'une appartient à la collection Torrignani. Celle-ci de très bonne qualité, proviendrait de la chapelle de l'ancien couvent des ducs de Mercoeur, d'où provient également la Piéta actuellement conservée dans la chapelle de Maillargues. Par ailleurs il existe une autre copie de la Mise au tombeau exécutée au 19e siècle conservée dans la chapelle d'hiver de l'église de Pleaux.
