Historique :	Cette Vierge de douleur provient très certainement d'une poutre de Gloire où elle accompagnait le Christ en Croix et saint Jean. Les poutres de Gloire furent supprimées dans le Cantal, sur injonction de Monseigneur de Marguerye, évêque de Saint-Flour de 1837 à 1851. Son aspect à la fois robuste et un peu rustique rappelle certaines oeuvres du Cantal comme la Vierge à l'Enfant langée de Fridefont (classée monuments historiques, aujourd'hui volée) avec la même intensité d'expression et la même simplicité. Oeuvre restaurée en 1990 par Astrid Lorenzen (envoyée par les services du Louvre).
